Welcome To Your Waterside Escape

Myrtle Cottage is a place
that feels instantly familiar.
Full of character, comfort, and a quiet kind of charm.
Set beside the River Hamble, this beautifully restored 18th-century cottage offers a unique blend of history and hospitality. Step inside and you’ll find beamed ceilings, parquet floors, and a thoughtful mix of antique and modern furnishings that make every space feel welcoming and lived-in. Children adore the hidden “secret” bedroom, while grown-ups appreciate the open fireplaces, crisp Egyptian cotton linens, and eco-conscious luxury toiletries.
Beyond the front door, a world of local experiences awaits; from paddleboarding and river taxis to historic villages, family attractions, and scenic countryside walks. Great pubs, waterside cafes, and cosy local spots are all within easy reach, whether you’re looking for a relaxed drink or a long, lazy lunch.
Designed for slow mornings, unhurried afternoons, and memorable evenings, Myrtle Cottage is more than a place to stay – it’s somewhere to truly unwind.
OUR COTTAGE
Step inside Myrtle Cottage and you’ll find a space full of quiet character and thoughtful comfort. Originally built in the 18th century and now Grade II listed, the cottage still carries its history in every beam, floorboard, and fireplace — from the original parquet flooring to the low-slung ceilings and antique touches throughout.
The interiors blend rustic charm with modern convenience. The kitchen is well-equipped for family cooking or slow breakfasts at the pine table, while the sitting room and dining room offer a warm and relaxed setting with open fireplaces, plush seating, and soft lighting. Upstairs, each bedroom has its own personality — but it’s the hidden children’s room, tucked behind a low doorway, that always steals the show.
Little touches — from Egyptian cotton linens and luxury eco toiletries, to games, books, fans, and toys — make every stay feel personal and well-considered.
OUR GARDEN
The garden at Myrtle Cottage is more than an outdoor space — it’s an extension of the home, designed for long lunches, lazy afternoons, and evenings under the stars.
At the heart of it is the fully equipped outdoor kitchen and dining area, shaded by a grapevine-covered glass roof. With two fridges, a dishwasher, oven, hob, and both gas and kettle BBQs, it’s made for relaxed cooking and dining, whether you’re throwing together a quick lunch or hosting dinner with friends.
By day, the lawn is perfect for kids to play, for reading in the sun, or for enjoying lunch with a view. As dusk settles, outdoor heaters and festoon lighting create a warm, welcoming atmosphere — ideal for unwinding around the firepit with a glass of wine or soaking in the hot tub beneath the stars.
OUR PONTOON
Just beyond the garden gate, your own private 12-metre pontoon stretches out into the River Hamble — a rare and special feature that puts the water quite literally at your feet.
Launch your own RIB, kayak or paddleboard, or arrange to be picked up by local boats directly from the pontoon. Cruise upriver on the classic electric launch Gull, or enjoy a cream tea aboard Betsie Jane, a gentleman’s river launch. For something livelier, you can charter a RIB across the Solent for lunch on the Isle of Wight, or take the pink river taxi into the village of Hamble for an evening out.
Of course, you don’t have to go far — the pontoon is just as enjoyable with a cold drink in hand, a line in the water, or the kids discovering the thrill of crabbing as the tide gently rolls by.
